대학 예비 과정(파운데이션 과정: International Foundation Programme)이란 영국 정규 고등학교(12, 13학년 – Sixth Form College)에서 시행하는 대학 진학 시험인 2년제 A-Level 과정을 영국의 대학 진학을 희망하는 외국 학생들을 위해 1년 과정(9개월의 학업 기간)으로 축약한 “외국인 특례 입학 과정”으로 이해 됩니다.

파운데이션이란 영국 정규 고등학교 2년제 과정을 1년 과정으로 축약한 특례 과정

대학 예비과정은 영국 대학 학부(보통 3년 과정) 입학 바로 전 단계로서, 외국인에 한하여 영어 실력 향상 및 자신이 전공할 분야에 대한 사전지식을 습득할 수 있는 과정입니다. 이는 우리나라 대학의 학부 과정 중 교양과목을 수학하는 1학년 과정과 유사하므로,우리나라에서 고등학교만 졸업한 학생의 경우 영국 대학의 학부 과정에 진학하기 전에 이 예비과정을 거쳐야만 합니다.

참고로 영국의 대학 학부과정 입학 자격을 살펴 보면, 대학에 진학하기 전 초등학교 6년, 중학교 5년, 고등학교 2년으로 총 13년의 필수교육을 받고 대학으로 진학하게 됩니다. 그런데 우리나라의 경우 초,중,고등학교가 총 12년간이기 때문에 한국의 공교육 또는 이와 동등한 교육을 받은 (외국) 학생은 영국대학으로 입학하려면 적어도 1년간(9개월이상)의 대학예비과정인 파운데이션 코스를 이수해야 합니다.

A-Levels

AAB in GCE A-levels including Chemistry and at least one from Biology, Mathematics and Physics

OR

ABB at A-level including Chemistry and at least one from Biology, Mathematics and Physics plus A in a fourth AS level subject.

One Applied/VCE A-level or Applied/VCE AS level subject is acceptable in fulfilment of the three A-level plus one AS level offer.However, it may not be offered as part of a three A-level combination

Only one Mathematics subject will be counted at A-level and General Studies is not acceptable.

GCSE English, Mathematics and either Biology or Double Award Science at Grade C or better are required if not offered at AS level or A-level.

In making decisions, both GCSE and AS level performance are taken into account and the thresholds vary from year to year according to supply and demand.

Repeat applicants are considered individually on their merits and where offers are made, the standard required is AAA at A-level or AAB at A-level plus A in a fourth AS level.

Irish Leaving Certificate

As this qualification is more broadly-based than A-levels, A-level Chemistry must also be taken.

AAAB2B2B2 (including Biology) at Higher Level plus B in A-level Chemistry.English and Mathematics are required at Ordinary Level, if not taken at Higher Level.

Scottish Highers

AAAAB (including at least one from Biology, Mathematics and Physics) plus B in Advanced Higher Chemistry.

Standard Grade (3 or better) in English, Mathematics and Biology are required if not taken at Higher Level.

International Baccalaureate

Successful completion of the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a total of 34 points including 6,6,6 or 6,6,5 in Higher Level subjects, including Chemistry and at least one from Biology, Mathematics and Physics.Standard Level Biology, English and Mathematics or equivalent are required if not taken at Higher Level.?

Graduate Entry

A minimum of an Upper Second Class Honours degree, preferably in a relevant subject, normally completed within five years of the intended date of entry to the Pharmacy degree.Those with an Upper Second Class Honours degree in a non-relevant subject may be considered if they have the appropriate science background at GCSE and A-level.

Mature Students

The same requirements to those listed above apply.
