고전 번역에 끼치는 “한국고전종합DB”의 영향과 문제 개선 방안
한국고전종합DB(이하 ‘고전DB’)는 우리나라 한문 고전과 관련된 독보적 위상을 지닌 DB이다. 때문에 번역자들은 고전DB에서 많은 정보를 얻게 되는데, 본고는 고전DB가 고전 번역에 어떠한 영향을 끼치는지, 또 고전DB의 문제점은 무엇인지 검토하고, 문제 해결 방안을 제안하고자 하였다. 고전 번역에서 고전DB의 영향은 지대하다. 번역자 개인의 독해력과 사전 등의 공구서에 의존하던 고전 번역은 고전DB의 정보를 활용하는 방식으로 전환되었다고 하겠다. 그 결과 고전 번역의 신속성과 정확성 제고에 크게 기여하였으며, 축적된 정보는 번역 후속세대 양성에도 긍정적으로 작용한다. 그러나 고전DB의 잘못된 정보는 향후 더 많은 오류를 발생시킬 가능성을 내포한 위험 요소이다. 고전DB는 口頭의 오류와 誤字, 字音의 오류, 주석의 오류 등 적지 않은 문제점을 안고 있는데, 본고는 예시를 통해 그 실상을 검토해 보았다. 고전DB가 안고 있는 문제점을 해결하기 위한 최선의 방법은 고전DB의 오류 수정을 위한 별도 사업의 시행이다. 하지만 소요 비용, 그리고 수정 이후에도 잘못된 정보가 upload될 가능성이 있기 때문에 일회성 성과에 그칠 가능성이 높다. 따라서 사용자의 관심 속에 지속적인 수정이 필요하다고 보았다. 사용자는 고전DB의 정보가 완벽하지 않다는 인식 아래 사실 여부를 확인하는 자세가 필요하며, 잘못된 정보로 밝혀지면 ‘오류신고’를 통해 오류 내용이 수정될 수 있도록 관심을 기울여야 한다. 한편 한국고전번역원에서는 접수된 오류를 수동적으로 수정할 것이 아니라 동일한 오류 내용이 모두 수정될 수 있도록 능동적이며 적극적인 수정에 나서야 한다. 모두의 관심과 노력으로 고전DB가 우리나라 한문 고전 분야의 표준 DB로 완성되어가기를 바란다.
Korean classics comprehensive DB(hereinafter referred to as ‘Classics DB’)deserves to be called DB having an unrivalled status related to Chinese classical writing in Korea. For that reason, translators get to obtain lots of information from classics DB; hereupon, this study intended to examine what influence of Classics DB on classics translation, and what problems Classics DB has, and to propose a solution to problems thereof. The influence of classics DB in classics translation is immense. It can be said that classics translation, which relied on a translator’s individual reading comprehension and reference books like dictionaries, etc., has converted to the method of using the information of Classics DB. As a result, such a method has greatly contributed to the raising of rapidity and accuracy in classics translation, and the accumulated information will work positively on training of the succeeding generation of translation as well. However, the mistaken information of Classics DB is a risk factor connoting the possibility of causing a lot more errors for the time to come. Classics DB has not a few problems such as verbal errors and typos, errors in sounds of Chinese characters, and a fallacy in annotation, etc. This study examined the true picture of Classics DB through examples. The best way to solve out the problems with Classics DB is to implement a separate project for error correction of Classics DB. However, there is a high probability that the separate project could end in a one-shot outcome because of required cost, and the likelihood of mistaken information upload even after correction. Accordingly, this study looked upon continuous correction amid user interest as necessary. A user needs to have an attitude of ascertaining whether the information is true or not with the awareness that the information of Classics DB is not flawless, and when some information listed in Classics DB is found to be mistaken, a user is supposed to pay more attention so that the error text could be corrected through ‘error reporting.’ In addition, the Institute for the Translation of Korean Classics is required to do active, aggressive correction in order for the same error text to be all corrected other than passive correction of received errors. This study hopes that the standard DB of the Chinese classics area in Korea could be completed through all the related persons’ concern and efforts.

동양고전종합DB 사업은 2010년 교육부의 지원 사업인 “고전문헌국역사업”의 일환으로 시작되었으며 2011년 웹 서비스는 시작하였습니다. 이후 지속적인 동양고전(한문) 한글번역서를 데이터베이스하여 웹 서비스 하고 있으며 증대하는 자료와 더불어 이용자수 또한 크게 늘어나고 있습니다. 2020년 현재 58종 133책을 서비스하고 있으며 이중 9책에 이르는 통감절요通鑑節要 및 8책의 춘추좌씨전春秋左氏傳을 완벽하게 서비스하고 있습니다. 또한 2015년부터는 동양최초로 13경주소의 번역 웹 서비스 논어주소를 필두로 시작하고 있습니다.
